Dutchman arrested in Ghana for cocaine trafficking was wanted in The Netherlands for shooting in a hospital

A Dutchman, Gilano Holwijn, has been arrested in Ghana for cocaine trafficking, but he is also wanted in his home country for a shooting incident. The 31-year-old was apprehended in Tema, along with three others, following intelligence. The police seized 866 packages of a white substance, which Holwijn claimed to be cocaine with an estimated street value of $6.9 million. The other suspects are Ghanaians: John Mensah Sabah, 41, Alhaji Iddris Haruna, 52, and Eric Tetteh. Holwijn reportedly admitted to owning the packages.

In late 2018, the Dutch police launched a major manhunt for Holwijn and his older brother following a conflict in Zaandam, a city in northern Holland. A friend of the brothers was shot during the altercation, and Holwelyn's brother then drew a weapon and began shooting at the scene. The brothers pursued the shooter into the hospital's emergency department lobby, where Holwijn's brother fired his weapon. When a second weapon jammed, the brothers fled the scene.
