Cyberabad civic body asks Zomato to delist repeat violators, tighten checks before onboarding

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has requested online food delivery company Zomato to implement stricter checks on restaurants and food businesses listed on their platform. These measures include verifying Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licenses before allowing establishments to join the platform. This request came during a follow-up meeting between CMC Commissioner G. Srijana and Zomato's legal team representatives on Friday, August 7, 2026.

The discussions also focused on delisting Food Business Operators (FBOs) who repeatedly violate food safety and hygiene norms. The corporation is seeking stronger compliance checks before allowing establishments previously penalized for violations to return to the platform. The CMC is urging Zomato to verify the FSSAI license number, validity, and the category of business for which the license was issued before onboarding an establishment.

Additionally, the corporation is considering measures to prevent multiple establishments from operating or being listed under a single FSSAI license. Zomato representatives have pledged cooperation in implementing the measures aimed at enhancing compliance at the platform level, according to the CMC.
