CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Lays Foundation Stone of India’s First-of-Its-Kind ₹1,116 Crore Vardhman-Aichi Steel Forging Plant, 500 Youth to Get Direct Employment

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the foundation stone of India's first-ever ₹1,116 crore forging and machining unit, a collaboration between Vardhman Special Steels and Japan's Aichi Steel. The state-of-the-art plant is poised to generate direct employment for over 500 individuals, with potential for 2,000 more jobs in the future. The enhanced investment, from the initially planned ₹500 crore to ₹1,116 crore, underscores the confidence of global entities in Punjab's pro-business policies.

The forging facility will produce high-value automobile components catering to both domestic and international markets. Punjab’s new industrial policy streamlines the approval process, offering all clearances within 45 days through the Single-Window, Single-Pen system. CM Mann emphasized that the project marks a new era for Punjab’s industrial sector, providing substantial employment opportunities and propelling economic development.

Notably, Vardhman has been a significant player in the state for nearly four decades and Aichi Steel, a reputable Japanese firm and key supplier to Toyota, forged a partnership based on trust, technology, and a long-term vision. The project is expected to integrate Japan’s advanced forging technology into Punjab, fostering a shift from basic manufacturing to high-value manufacturing.

CM Mann highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating that it demonstrates international companies’ confidence in Punjab’s skilled workforce, work culture, and industrial strength. The state’s industrial ecosystem, bolstered by its unique "Single Window-Single Pen" system, ensures investors receive clear policies, prompt decisions, and comprehensive support throughout project life.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the efficient approval process, with applications decided within 45 working days through the Fast Track Punjab Portal, which streamlines over 200 business services and nearly 50 regulatory clearances. Punjab has already attracted investments worth around ₹1.78 lakh crore, generating employment for nearly six lakh people, reflecting industry’s growing trust in the state.

Recalling their mission to Punjab, the Chief Minister emphasized their commitment to bringing investment, technology, skills, and global opportunities to the state during their recent visit to Japan. The inauguration of this plant represents a significant outcome of their efforts and marks a pivotal step in Punjab’s industrial transformation.
