Außenhandel: Chinas Handelsüberschuss mit Deutschland wächst weiter

The trade imbalance between China and Germany continues to expand, with China exporting $12.3 billion worth of goods to Germany in July, a 17.4% increase compared to the previous year, according to Chinese customs data. Conversely, trade from Germany to China weakened, with Chinese imports from Germany falling by 2.7% to $7.9 billion.

This disparity is evident over a longer period as well: Chinese exports to Germany rose by 18.8% to $79.7 billion from January to July, while imports from Germany increased by only 1.1% to $53 billion. This resulted in China's trade surplus with Germany reaching nearly $27 billion in the first seven months. Germany has long been concerned about growing Chinese competition, particularly in key sectors like automotive and machinery manufacturing.

Many German manufacturers are losing market share to Chinese competitors and facing stronger competition from China in global markets. Imports from other regions are growing significantly. In contrast to trade with Germany, Chinese imports from various other regions increased sharply. Overall, Chinese imports in July rose by nearly a quarter (27.5%), while exports increased by 23.9%.

Imports from ASEAN countries rose by 36%, from Russia by 26.8%, from Africa by 25%, and from the USA by 15.3%. Simultaneously, China increased its exports to ASEAN countries by 38.4% and to Africa by 18.2%. The USA remains a significant trade partner, with Chinese exports to the United States increasing by 17% and imports from the USA by 15.3%.

A major driver of China's exports is high-tech products. In the first seven months, the value of high-tech exports surged by 40.7%, with chip exports nearly doubling. Auto exports also grew by more than 50%.
