Adobe launches ChatGPT plugin for Photoshop, Acrobat

Adobe has unveiled a groundbreaking plug-in that integrates over 70 of its creative and productivity tools into the popular ChatGPT platform, transforming it into a Canva rival with a fascinating twist. Users can now input their desired outcomes in simple language, and the AI-powered system will automatically generate photos, videos, social media posts, and PDFs using various Adobe tools.

Forest Key, Adobe's vice president of Firefly and Agentic AI, emphasizes the delightful element of unpredictability that ChatGPT brings to the process, as it interprets requests and combines tools in creative ways. Key explains that ChatGPT acts as an interpreter, understanding user commands based on its knowledge of the user's past interactions and Adobe's backend.

The plug-in is currently available globally on ChatGPT's web and mobile apps, as well as ChatGPT Work and Codex, consolidating previously separate Adobe apps into one central platform. With this seamless integration, users can create everything from consistent photo styles to customized design templates and infographics. The plug-in operates on a 'progressive disclosure' model, allowing users to start with high-level suggestions and then add finer controls as needed.

Express templates provide layout guidance, while the ability to export files into Adobe's full apps enables pixel-perfect editing. Adobe's approach is a departure from traditional software design, embracing non-deterministic behavior to cater to a wider range of users and use cases.
