Yathindra reiterates opposition to Hindu Rashtra

Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah has reiterated his stance against the establishment of a "Hindu Rashtra." He argued that such a state would perpetuate the exploitation of backward classes and Dalits under the caste system. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Yathindra warned that proponents of Hindutva would impose a social order based on the Manusmriti, which he termed exploitative.

He emphasized that Shudras and Dalits would once again be subjected to exploitation if India were to become a Hindu Rashtra. Yathindra drew parallels to the words of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, stating that such a move would be very dangerous for the country. He reaffirmed India's commitment to secularism, pointing out that the Constitution explicitly makes this a fact.

While touring parts of Mysuru district to assess the drought situation, Yathindra confirmed that he had been given temporary charge as Minister-in-Charge of the district, a responsibility now "more or less confirmed." He also mentioned his intention to visit Urulingapeddi Mutt and Suttur Mutt to seek blessings, as it would be his first visit to the district in his new capacity.

Responding to a question about water release to canals, Yathindra confirmed that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had directed this during a recent all-party meeting in Bengaluru. He explained that with dams filling and water naturally overflowing, it made sense to release water to canals as well.
