Woman jailed 3 years for abducting eight-month-old baby at Kpando Market

A Kpando Circuit Court has handed down a three-year prison sentence to a 31-year-old woman, Stella Amedzorme, for the abduction of an eight-month-old infant from Kpando Market in the Volta Region. The victim, Gloria Xagbe, left her child in Amedzorme's custody for a brief period to purchase packaging bags at the market on July 17.

Upon her return, both the woman and the infant were missing. The Volta North Regional Police Command swiftly launched an investigation and managed to apprehend Amedzorme the following day at Toviate, an Oti Region suburb. The rescued child was found uninjured and promptly reunited with the family. Amedzorme admitted to taking the baby at the behest of her fiancé, who remains at large.

Police investigations are still ongoing to apprehend the suspect's partner, who is believed to have played a role in the abduction. The police have emphasized their dedication to safeguarding children and urged parents to remain vigilant when entrusting their children to others' care, even in familiar settings.
