Trump says war will end 'fairly soon' as report says deal reached to temporarily reopen Hormuz

Oman has reportedly agreed to a temporary arrangement with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to Middle Eastern diplomats. The diplomats did not disclose the specifics of the deal, but an Iranian official said it would establish new shipping lanes, allowing vessels to enter the Persian Gulf via Iran-controlled routes and exit through Oman-controlled routes.

The agreement is reportedly temporary and aims to pave the way for a new ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, as well as the resumption of nuclear negotiations. The U.N. International Maritime Organization and the U.S. would be part of the official announcement. The Gulf Cooperation Council had also approved the arrangement. U.S. President Donald Trump suggested in a televised address that the war with Iran would end "fairly soon" due to the temporary reopening of the strait.

He added that a blockade led by the U.S. Navy currently controls the area, though Iranian vessels could potentially disrupt operations with mines. Trump blamed former President Joe Biden for providing Ukraine with a vast amount of weapons without payment, stating that the U.S. possesses powerful ammunition supplies, both precise and advanced, as well as less precise but still potent options.
