Shettima begins two-week vacation

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima commenced a two-week vacation, authorized by President Bola Tinubu, marking his inaugural break since stepping into office on May 29, 2023. Stanley Nkwocha, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, revealed in a statement that Shettima would utilize this time for "study, reflection and intellectual renewal" as part of his dedication to enhancing his capacity for continued national service.

The leave provides Shettima with the chance to assess the administration’s ongoing programs, gain a deeper understanding of pressing national and international policy matters, and prepare for forthcoming responsibilities as the Federal Government accelerates the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since his inauguration, Shettima has remained actively involved in the coordination and supervision of numerous strategic government initiatives, with a focus on economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation. He chairs the National Economic Council, a body comprising governors of the 36 states, the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, and other public figures, which convenes to deliberate on economic policy and citizen welfare.

Shettima has also represented Tinubu at significant international and regional meetings, including the G20 and AU-EU summits last November, when Tinubu chose to remain in Nigeria amid kidnappings in Papiri, Niger State, and Eruku, Kwara State.

Nkwocha emphasized Shettima's unwavering commitment to the principles of loyalty, duty, and service that have characterized his role in the administration, as well as his continued support for President Tinubu's efforts to foster a more secure, productive, and prosperous Nigeria. The Vice President is scheduled to return to office at the close of the two-week period, likely resuming his official duties around August 20, 2026.
