Sen. Mitch McConnell says he's been discharged from rehab

Senator Mitch McConnell has been discharged from a rehabilitation center following a fall in June, according to a statement released by his office. The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican, who served as Senate majority leader until recently, has been recuperating at home after also contracting pneumonia. McConnell stated that he will continue his recovery through a rigorous physical therapy regimen at home while still actively participating in Senate matters.

Initially taken to a Washington-area hospital in mid-June under undisclosed circumstances, McConnell suffered a fall that left him briefly unconscious. Upon hospitalization, it was discovered he had pneumonia, which he was treated for with antibiotics. Since his hospitalization, McConnell has maintained contact with his legislative staff and Senate colleagues, addressing ongoing issues and keeping colleagues informed of current matters.

Despite his absence, which saw limited public appearances, including one described as a "proof-of-life" photo holding a copy of the Washington Post, McConnell's prolonged absence sparked calls for increased transparency regarding his condition or resignation. Speculation even suggested his staff were delaying an official announcement to prevent a potential special election before the November mid-terms.

The senator also faced multiple instances of appearing "frozen" during press conferences, requiring assistance from aides.
