Samsung Odyssey G8 6K Review: Pixel Overdose

Samsung's Odyssey G8 G80HS is a 32-inch gaming monitor boasting a resolution of 6144 x 3456, touting the title of one of the sharpest displays on the market. The monitor's high pixel count results in an extremely sharp image, making everything from Windows desktops to high-quality photos appear even more detailed. However, the monitor's single-minded pursuit of sharpness comes at a cost.

The G80HS is designed primarily for gaming, and it requires a high-performance PC to run at 6K resolution at a playable frame rate. Even modern PCs might struggle to handle the monitor's demands at this resolution. Additionally, the monitor's IPS-LCD panel, while capable of producing sharp images, lacks the color gamut, color accuracy, and contrast ratio found in OLED displays.

While the G80HS does offer impressive motion clarity, it still falls short of OLED competitors in this regard. Furthermore, the monitor lacks a USB-C input, which could have made it more versatile for laptop users. Despite its strengths, the Samsung Odyssey G8 G80HS's high price point, limited USB connectivity, and subpar panel make it a less-than-ideal choice for many gamers.
