Richard Ahiagbah explains NPP Democracy Under Attack protest, calls for fairness in state investigations

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has addressed the party's "Democracy Under Attack" protest, emphasizing the need for fairness in state investigations and an end to selective justice. The demonstration, organized to highlight what the NPP perceives as biased application of law and targeting of opposition members by state institutions, aims to draw national attention to critical issues regarding the rule of law, impartiality, and professionalism within investigative bodies.

Ahiagbah clarified that the NPP does not oppose the work of institutions like the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) but insists on its constitutional duty to maintain impartiality and professionalism. During the Thursday demonstration, Ahiagbah addressed Raymond Archer, EOCO's Executive Director, urging him to ensure investigations are unbiased and inspire public confidence.

He affirmed that there is no intention to hinder state institutions but calls for them to operate professionally, warning that selective actions could repeat if not addressed. The protest, which saw hundreds of NPP supporters, executives, and sympathizers march through Accra's main streets from the Supreme Court forecourt, plans to deliver petitions to the judiciary and the Presidency, advocating for fair treatment and respect for democratic principles.
