Punjab police's Saanjh Rahat Kendras helped over 1,000 women in distress, says DGP

The Punjab police have introduced a program called Saanjh Rahat Kendras to assist women experiencing distress. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that these centers have provided counseling, legal aid, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation services to over 1,000 women in the past two years. Initially launched with two trained counsellors in Mohali, the initiative has now expanded to four districts, including civil hospitals in SAS Nagar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Jalandhar.

Yadav emphasized the importance of timely intervention to prevent further violence and ensure women's safety. He cited examples of women who sought help after experiencing domestic abuse and were assisted by the police in securing their safety, arranging transportation, and initiating legal proceedings against their abusers. The program has also helped a pregnant woman in critical condition receive medical care and emotional support after she suffered a miscarriage.

The Punjab Police has implemented various other initiatives to promote women's safety and child protection, such as the Jagriti Programme and the Women Help Desks. These initiatives have reached millions of children and school staff members with awareness programs on issues like cybercrime, domestic violence, and child marriage.
