Pakistan launches effort to trace missing boxer Qudratullah after Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Pakistan's authorities have initiated an extensive search operation to locate missing boxer Qudratullah after the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 20-year-old, who competed in the men's 60kg category, failed to return with the national team. This disappearance has been treated as a high-profile case, according to sources. A member of the Pakistani contingent revealed that all members, including Qudratullah, were accounted for until around 2:00am in Glasgow, where the team was set to depart the following morning.

Qudratullah also checked into his designated room. Despite taking preventive measures, he managed to disappear, causing disappointment and damaging Pakistan's reputation, according to an official. The government agencies are making serious efforts to trace Qudratullah, although it may not be considered urgent if British authorities issue him six-month visas.

Qudratullah, affiliated with the Pakistan Army, lost to Jude Gallagher of Northern Ireland during the Games. The Pakistani contingent returned from Glasgow with only one medal - a bronze won by boxer Fatima Zahra in the women's 60kg category. This incident is not an isolated one; during the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, two Pakistani boxers went missing, and in 2024, boxer Zohaib Rasheed vanished in Italy while representing Pakistan at an Olympic qualifying event. No official from the Pakistan Boxing Federation was available for comment.
