‘No speech can erase your pain’ – Mahama consoles families of helicopter crash victims

President John Mahama paid respects to the families of eight state officials who perished in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash, emphasizing that no speech or ceremony can alleviate the pain of their loss. Addressing a national inter-faith memorial service in Accra on Thursday, Mahama conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the government and people of Ghana.

He assured them that while no words can fill the void left by their loved ones, nor can anniversaries or ceremonies replace the presence that is dearly missed, Ghana will always remember their contributions. The President highlighted that the victims, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, former Agriculture Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others, were on their way to the Ashanti Region to combat illegal mining when the tragic incident occurred.

Mahama emphasized that although they left behind families, dreams, and unfinished responsibilities, their service to Ghana would continue to be honored. He emphasized that the nation mourns with these families, reminding them that their loved ones died as part of the collective Ghanaian experience.
