NiDCOM hails first Nigerian neurosurgeon on US medical director appointment

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Nigeria has celebrated the appointment of its first indigenous female neurosurgeon, Dr Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu-Ibrahim, as the Medical Director of a children's hospital in the United States. NiDCOM Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, made the announcement in a statement released in Abuja.

NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, emphasized that the appointment was a significant milestone for Nigerians living abroad and an inspiration to young people, especially girls aspiring to careers in medicine. Dabiri-Erewa highlighted that Dr Aliu-Ibrahim's success demonstrates that excellence is not limited by gender, race, or religion, stating, "Faith and excellence are not mutually exclusive."

She further encouraged young Nigerians to remain dedicated to excellence, asserting that competence, integrity, and hard work are key to making meaningful contributions to society. While praising the achievement, Dabiri-Erewa expressed concern over the ongoing migration of highly skilled Nigerian healthcare professionals seeking better opportunities abroad.

She acknowledged that the Nigerian government is taking steps to improve the welfare, remuneration, and working conditions of medical professionals to reduce brain drain and strengthen the country's healthcare system. Dabiri-Erewa commended Dr Aliu-Ibrahim for projecting Nigeria positively through her excellence and wished her success in her new role, adding that NiDCOM would continue to celebrate outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora whose accomplishments enhance the country's global image and inspire future generations.
