Newcastle preparing offer for Felix Nmecha after holding talks with his reps

Newcastle United is set to make an opening offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, Sky Sports Germany reports. This comes after the Magpies held preliminary discussions with Nmecha's representatives, as detailed in the club's bid to bolster their central midfield ahead of the new Premier League season. In a recent financial move, Newcastle sold Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal for £75 million, indicating a strong focus on reinforcing their midfield department.

Nmecha, a 25-year-old Germany international, has been closely monitored by Newcastle's recruitment team, who believe his physical attributes and technical skills align perfectly with the requirements of Mathias Jaissle's tactical system. Standing at 6ft 3in, the midfielder is capable of both attacking the opposition and providing defensive cover.

However, any potential transfer will be a significant financial challenge for Newcastle, given the club's revenue of approximately £250 million from player sales this summer. Dortmund, having acquired Nmecha for £24 million from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023, are expected to demand a fee in the region of £85 million for his services. The club is eager to conclude its summer spending before the season kicks off, with Victor Froholdt, Manu Kone, and Angelo Stiller identified as other potential targets. Yet, Nmecha appears to be the frontrunner in Newcastle's pursuit.
