National League suspends Ebbsfleet over unpaid debt

Ebbsfleet United's opening three National League South fixtures for the season have been suspended due to the club's ongoing financial difficulties. The club is currently under a winding-up petition from His Majesty's Revenue and Customs regarding unpaid debts dating back to April. As a result, their matches against Slough Town, Folkestone Invicta, and Chelmsford City, scheduled for August 8th, 15th, and 17th, respectively, will be rescheduled.

The National League has informed Ebbsfleet that they have until 5 PM BST on August 18th to provide evidence that their financial obligations have been and will be met in accordance with the regulations. The club was relegated from the National League at the end of the 2024-25 season and finished ninth in National League South last season, missing out on the play-offs due to goal difference.

The National League has also alerted the Independent Football Regulator about the situation, placing Ebbsfleet under a transfer embargo.

The club's website stated that their HMRC debts would be resolved by the end of August once the takeover had been completed. However, the league has expressed concerns about Ebbsfleet's financial viability, the recent revocation of the Northfleet Harbourside development, and how their debts have been treated. The league has given the owners until 10 AM BST on August 19th to rectify the situation and demonstrate their financial stability to the league.
