MRCB, Theta Edge peroleh kontrak RM3 bilion projek LRT P Pinang

Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) and Theta Edge Bhd have been awarded a RM3.028 billion turnkey contract for the first Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Penang, known as Laluan Mutiara Pulau Pinang. According to MRT Corp, the STC includes seven main packages of track infrastructure, including electric train maintenance and depot equipment, along with power supply provision.

The appointment of both companies enables the design of the track system to be carried out concurrently with bridge and station construction from Pulau Silikon to Komtar. The project manager also announced that they are evaluating tenders for the Government Works Contract 2 (CMC2) package, which covers the expansion from Komtar to Penang Central.

MRT Corp expects the contract to be awarded in November 2026. The company states that SRS Consortium continues to award various sub-contract packages for station construction and related work, in line with developments across the project. MRT Corp proudly announces that Bumiputera involvement now exceeds 20% of the total contract value, referring to the government works package worth over RM8 billion.

Prior reports indicated that the Laluan Mutiara LRT project was perfectly positioned for operations as targeted for 2031. A total of 22 stations will be built, including one at Penang Central, Butterworth, connected to Macallum Street via a six-kilometer bridge.
