Klay Thompson could opt to return to home, if Dallas doesn't work out

There's a possibility that NBA veteran Klay Thompson may decide to return to his hometown Los Angeles, specifically the Los Angeles Lakers, if his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks doesn't work out. The 36-year-old Thompson, who joined the Mavericks in July 2024, signed a three-year, $50 million contract but has been struggling offensively in recent seasons.

The Mavericks owe him $17.5 million for the remainder of his contract, which could make a buyout an option.
