Israeli settlers attack West Bank Palestinian community, burn homes

On August 6, 2026, Israeli settlers targeted a Palestinian community known as Khirbet al-Tuba, located in the West Bank, resulting in injuries, home destruction, and power outage. Residents reported that around 40 settlers arrived at the isolated village, around 10 pm, and proceeded to throw stones at the inhabitants, who tried to protect women and children, only to be beaten themselves.

Afterward, the settlers set fire to some homes, blackened other structures with smoke, and spray-painted Hebrew on remaining buildings. The settlers destroyed the community's only source of power, twelve solar panels, rendering them unusable. The military condemned the incident, stating they arrived after the attack had begun and found the suspects had fled.

Five people were injured in the attack, including a girl, a woman, and two children. This is not the first such incident, as similar attacks have occurred in the past, but the frequency has increased recently. The military will investigate the incident, but locals and rights groups claim such investigations seldom lead to prosecutions, and settlers often act with impunity, receiving support from the army.

This marks the first indictment of an Israeli settler for the killing of a Palestinian since the outbreak of the Gaza war in 2023, indicating a shift in the approach to hold Israelis accountable for violent actions against Palestinians.
