Infantino finds a friend in Africa as CAF backs FIFA president

On Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) unanimously backed beleaguered FIFA president Gianni Infantino, despite opposition from other football governing bodies. This decision puts CAF at odds with UEFA, which has announced plans to boycott future World Cups while Infantino remains in office. CAF, which represents 54 of FIFA's 211 member associations, has been a steadfast supporter of Infantino since he assumed office in 2016.

The CAF executive committee praised Infantino for his support of African football and thanked him for his efforts. However, CAF also called for increased transparency and good governance within global football. CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed his loyalty to Infantino, describing him as a "good friend" and "loyal friend" who is dedicated to Africa.
