Herdr is joining Y Combinator. The runtime stays open

Can, the sole creator of Herdr, has decided to change course after months of introspection about the software engineering landscape and his own hobby projects. He recognized that he was the bottleneck, hindering the development of a tool that suited his needs. Can created a runtime, which is essentially a CLI coding agent running in terminals, as he believed agents should integrate with existing products rather than requiring additional software.

The runtime is designed to be persistent and accessible from anywhere, running on VPS or through SSH connections. The TUI, which Can uses daily, provides a glanceable overview of agents, organizes work by project, and sends alerts only when necessary. The TUI has gained popularity, with over 25k stars and 340k downloads. Can is excited to join Y Combinator's F26 batch and build a small team to further develop Herdr, focusing on reliability, extensibility, and seamless integration across various clients. The runtime will remain free and open-source, allowing users to build on top of it as they see fit.
