Google DeepMind's chief AI readiness officer, Lila Ibrahim, has revealed her perspective on the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence. She stated that the scenario of AI causing human extinction is not zero, emphasizing the importance of addressing this risk as seriously as nuclear war. Ibrahim's comments come three years after she, along with other tech leaders like Sam Altman and Dario Amodei, signed a statement declaring the need to mitigate the existential risk of AI.

While Geoffrey Hinton and Amodei have estimated the odds of human extinction to be 10% to 20% and 25%, respectively, within three decades, Ibrahim remains skeptical of exact predictions. She believes that the rapid pace of AI development makes it difficult to anticipate the future accurately. Instead, she advocates for focusing on using AI to address real-world problems, such as extreme weather conditions and industrial waste, while ensuring that the benefits are distributed equitably among people.
