Former Air Force logistics chief suspected of 21 million-hryvnia illicit enrichment

A former logistics chief of Ukraine’s Air Force Command is under formal suspicion for allegedly amassing illicit wealth of around 21 million hryvnias ($448,000). This sum is nearly six times the minimum subsistence allowance. Procurator General Ruslan Kravchenko and the State Bureau of Investigation made the announcement. Over the span of 2020 to 2025, the individual is accused of purchasing property worth at least 20 million hryvnias more than his authorized earnings.

Several residences across Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr were under the names of individuals affiliated with the lieutenant colonel. The assets also encompassed three houses in Zhytomyr Oblast, an apartment in Bukovel, six plots of land, four vehicles, garages, and other nonresidential properties, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.

While registered to family members, the officer is presumed to have maintained effective control, ownership, and discretionary power over the assets. No legitimate sources of income could account for these acquisitions. The man received notice of suspicion for alleged violations of Article 368-5 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. Prosecutors also filed a motion requesting pretrial detention, with bail exceeding 21 million hryvnias.

In February, the former logistics chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force Command and the head of Ukraine’s SBU Security Service directorate in Zhytomyr Oblast were detained on charges of corruption during the construction of aircraft shelters. They were identified as Colonel Andrii Ukrainets and Colonel Volodymyr Kompanichenko.

Authorities seized $320,000 during the raid. Ukraine’s SBU Security Service stated they received notices of suspicion under the same case.
