Europe Still Plans to Boycott World Cups, UEFA Says

UEFA maintains its boycott of FIFA competitions, including World Cups, following a July 30 emergency meeting by its 55 European federations. Despite FIFA president Gianni Infantino's decision to halt plans to sell shares of the World Cup, UEFA remains unconvinced that the organization has fulfilled its conditions for non-participation.

These conditions include the withdrawal of proposals to sell major competitions and assurances that such actions will not be repeated. UEFA also expressed lack of confidence in Infantino's future as FIFA president. FIFA acknowledged "errors" in the handling of the proposal and apologized to its 211 member associations, promising an internal review.

While FIFA's leadership is confident in the organization's governance, Infantino remains confident in his position. Calls for Infantino's departure have grown, with several European federations, including Finland, Wales, and Serbia, withdrawing their endorsements. The next FIFA event, the U-20 Women's World Cup in September, could be impacted by the European boycott, though UEFA has not yet confirmed its stance.
