Egypt’s FM participates in 5th R-4 group meeting

On Wednesday, 5th of March, 2026, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, joined the fifth meeting of the R-4 Group, a gathering of Foreign Ministers from Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The session, held in Amman, Jordan, alongside the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem, focused on regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

The participating ministers underscored the significance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the strait, a vital element for global economic stability and international trade security. They also highlighted the necessity of returning to the June 18, 2026 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, and supporting the pursuit of a sustainable agreement to bolster regional security and stability, averting further escalation and tensions.

During the discussions, the ministers reiterated the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the creation of an independent Palestinian state and the end of the occupation are fundamental prerequisites for achieving a just and comprehensive peace. They further discussed mechanisms to fortify cooperation and coordination within the quadrilateral mechanism, the future of regional security frameworks, and strategies to bolster the framework's efficacy through regular meetings at diverse levels to sustain consultations on pressing regional concerns.
