Deion Sanders took his Colorado Buffaloes two hours south for summer training camp bonding

Fountain, Colorado (AP) — Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, has taken his team to Fountain Fort Carson High School for a week-long training camp in a neighboring town. The purpose of the trip is to provide an NFL-style experience for the players, away from the distractions and responsibilities of their home base in Boulder.

Sanders hopes that the NCAA will soon allow teams to scrimmage with or against each other in the offseason, similar to a scrimmage he suggested a couple of years ago when Syracuse wanted to visit Boulder for a spring game. However, the NCAA has not agreed to this proposal.

This is the first time in Sanders' four seasons as a coach at the Buffaloes that he has taken his team out of town for a training camp. He believes that the change of scenery is beneficial for the players, allowing them to bond and get to know each other better. Sanders mentioned that the players have shared stories about their experiences, including one instance of a player sleep-walking and another coach falling out of bed.

Sanders reminisced about his NFL training camp days, although he missed some of them due to his baseball career. He emphasized the importance of the bond that is formed during these camps, stating that it is something that cannot be replaced by anything else. He also praised the new staff he has brought in, praising their fundamental skills, creativity, and ability to lead.

Sanders is confident that the new coaching staff and the influx of new players have created a positive environment and energy within the team. He is not feeling any pressure to bounce back after the team's challenging 3-9 season last year, stating that he applies pressure to himself, not to the team.
