Cubs Lose Pitcher Through Waivers to Royals

The Kansas City Royals have acquired pitcher Luke Little from the Chicago Cubs through the waiver process. This means Little's time with the Cubs has officially ended. In return, the Cubs have optioned Little to their Triple-A team in Omaha.

Adding to the Royals' roster changes, pitcher Luinder Avila has been placed on the 60-day injured list. Little was designated for assignment by the Cubs earlier this week, thus making him available for the Royals' claim.

Little had a brief stint in Major League Baseball with the Cubs this season, appearing once and pitching one inning. During that brief appearance, he allowed one home run and two hits. Over the course of 31 games this season, split between Double-A and Triple-A, Little has compiled an impressive 8-0 record, a 5.03 ERA, and 44 strikeouts.

Given that Little is just 25 years old, the Royals see potential in him and are willing to give him a chance. Standing at 6-foot-8, the lefty is expected to reach a new level with the Royals. Little has previously shown promise at the major league level, specifically with the Cubs where he posted a 3-1 record, a 3.46 ERA, and 28 strikeouts in 30 appearances during the 2024 season.

With these developments, it remains to be seen if Little can replicate his past success with the Royals.
