'Crazy radicals who want war': Vance sees 'messy' negotiations with Iran ahead

Vice President JD Vance has cautioned that negotiations with Iran will be messy and prolonged. Speaking to Fox News, Vance noted Iran's political fragmentation, with factions divided between those wanting the war to end and others advocating for its continuation. Iran's leadership is reportedly fractured, with some factions seeking the end of the conflict, while others desire it to persist.

Vance described Iranians as "extraordinarily difficult people" and emphasized the need for the US to navigate these divisions while pursuing its goals through military, economic, and diplomatic channels. He assured that the negotiations would be complex and time-consuming, but that a favorable outcome for the United States was assured, including a potential decrease in oil prices and Iran not acquiring nuclear weapons.

Despite Iran's reported proximity to finalising a separate agreement with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump claimed progress was being made, predicting a clearer picture within 48 hours. The situation is further complicated by the collapse of a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June to end hostilities, with ongoing disagreements over Iran's nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
