AAP Chief Alleges Meta Restricted His Account; Sources Say Action Limited To A Post

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has accused Meta of restricting his Instagram account in India without offering any explanation, calling on the social media giant not to "kowtow" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kejriwal, in a post on X, said his account was inaccessible in India and that repeated attempts to obtain an explanation from Meta India yielded no response.

"I have no idea why my account was restricted. No one at your office in India has given a reason. No one has suggested how to lift the restriction," he wrote. Kejriwal later shared a video stating that Instagram informed him his account had been "suppressed" and "restricted" in India. He claimed several users had reached out to him, alleging their accounts were similarly restricted.

Kejriwal alleged the government was pressuring Meta to censor accounts critical of Modi, including those discussing ethanol policy and leaked documents. However, Meta India sources told Inc42 that his account remains accessible in India and the issue appears to be confined to a specific post, as indicated by the Meta notification. Meta has not commented on the matter.
