3 cops killed in Beaufort, believed electrocuted

Three police officers were tragically killed in Beaufort, Sabah, on the afternoon of this day, believed to have been electrocuted. The incident occurred along Jalan Weston in Kampung Weston, as reported by Bernama. Videos of the tragedy quickly circulated on social media, depicting the three men lying lifeless on the road as witnesses gathered nearby.

The Sabah fire and rescue department operations centre received a distress call at 5:56 PM, prompting a team of seven firefighters from the Beaufort fire and rescue station to be dispatched to the scene, located approximately 28km away from the station. The initial report indicated that three victims had met their end along Jalan Weston, Kampung Weston, prior to the arrival of the fire brigade for rescue operations.

Operations commander Irwan Abdul led the team, supported by the police and personnel from Sabah Electricity. According to initial investigations by Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun, one of the policemen was attempting to gather coconuts from a tree when the calamity unfolded. It is believed that one officer, using a metal pole, lost his balance and inadvertently touched a live electric cable while attempting to bring down the coconuts.

When the other two policemen arrived to assist their fallen colleague, they too were electrocuted. The deceased have been identified as Chiu Teck Siong, aged 40; Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 29; and Raimi Ismarubee, 26. The remains of the three policemen have been sent to Beaufort Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to their respective families.
