Water level rises to 2,350 ft in Idukki reservoir in Kerala

The water level in the Idukki reservoir in Kerala has risen to nearly 2,350 feet after a week of heavy rainfall in the catchment area. According to KSEB dam safety wing data, the water level stood at 2,349.46 feet on Wednesday, compared to 2,377 feet on the same day last year. The reservoir's water level was approximately 28% of total capacity at the end of July, but has now increased to over 45%.

Officials stated that the Idukki dam, the largest hydroelectric power station in the State, has reached a safe storage position. With storage levels projected to reach around 50% of the total capacity soon, the catchment area received 37.2 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours. The statewide capacity of major hydroelectric dams rose to 47% on Wednesday.

Other key dams had water levels of 52% in Pamba, 50% in Sholayar and Idamalayar, 35% in Kundala, 9% in Mattupetty, 94% in Kuttiady, 59% in Thariyode, 23% in Anayirankal, 60% in Ponmudi, 95% in Neriamangalam, 56% in Peringalkuthu, and 100% in Lower Periyar. Meanwhile, the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam reached 120.70 feet on Wednesday.
