Warrington to face Wigan in Dublin in 2027

Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors are scheduled to compete against one another in Dublin in 2027, marking the first Super League match to be played in Ireland. The game will take place at the refurbished Laya Arena, the home ground of Leinster's rugby union team, on April 24th, 2027.

Karl Fitzpatrick, CEO of Warrington Wolves, expressed that this is a significant milestone for their club, Super League, and the sport of rugby league. He highlighted the success of the Las Vegas and Paris projects, and the city of Dublin's reputation as a world-class sporting city with experience in hosting major international events. This fixture offers an excellent opportunity to showcase rugby league on a grand stage.

The fixture is not Warrington's or Wigan's first encounter in Dublin. They previously faced each other at Shelbourne Park in 1934. Wigan also played against Leeds in a Charity Shield match in Dublin in 1995. This fixture adds another milestone to Super League's expansion beyond traditional heartlands, as the two teams met in the inaugural Rugby League Las Vegas event in 2025, and Wigan faced Catalans in Paris earlier this year.

Wigan Warriors' CEO, Kris Radlinski, expressed that this fixture could become another successful chapter in rugby league's growth story. He emphasized the importance of thinking differently and being ambitious in the sport. The 20,000-capacity Laya Arena has under gone a €52 million transformation before its reopening, in the lead up to the 2026 Dublin Horse Show.

Radlinski noted that Dublin's reputation for hosting major sporting events makes it an ideal stage for two passionate clubs and supporters to showcase what makes their game special. The fixture is set to take place in the week before the Magic Weekend event, which commences on May 1st, 2027.
