Trump says Strait of Hormuz will be reopened “soon” or Iran will suffer harsh consequences

President Trump stated during an interview on Fox News that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened "soon" or else he would inflict harsh consequences upon Iran. He mentioned that "very good discussions" were currently taking place with the Iranian government, but also warned that if Iran failed to honor their commitments, he would resume strikes.

Trump declared that "the Strait’s going to be open very soon or they are going to get hit very hard," and reiterating his stance, he added that "If they back out again, they are going to get hit really hard. They know that. They understand that. I have no choice." The former president expressed his preference for diplomacy over further attacks, stating, "We hit them very, very hard.

But the hard hit is yet to come and hopefully we won’t have to use it." He hoped that the ongoing discussions would prove fruitful, as Iran had been denying direct talks with the United States. Instead, Tehran has reportedly been engaging with Oman to formulate an agreement for the Strait's reopening. The hope is that once the Strait is reopened, the US and Iran can resume nuclear talks.
