Russian attack kills at least 17 in Kyiv as Ukraine hammers more Wildberries warehouses

On Wednesday, a devastating Russian attack on Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, resulted in at least 17 fatalities and 44 injuries, marking one of the deadliest strikes the city has faced this year. The intense bombardment involved a barrage of 24 ballistic missiles, four advanced Zircon/Oniks missiles, and 115 drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, highlighting the gravity of the attack.

The primary targets were civilian warehouse facilities, including those belonging to the Ukrainian e-commerce giant Wildberries, alongside infrastructure and a railway station. Zelenskyy emphasized the critical need for anti-ballistic missile systems, urging partners to accelerate their support, as delays in supplying such systems directly contribute to casualties and destruction.

Russian forces have intensified missile strikes on Ukrainian cities recently, potentially aiming to exploit Kyiv's limited inventory of ballistic missile interceptors. Ukraine heavily relies on the American Patriot PAC-3 system for missile interception, with domestic production proposed as a solution to alleviate the air defense shortage.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressed uncertainty regarding Washington's willingness to support this demand. Earlier, Russian Governor Dmitry Milyaev reported via Telegram that Russia's Defense Ministry had neutralized 107 Ukrainian drones overnight, with one drone crashing into a Wildberries sorting center, causing it to catch fire.

Despite no reported casualties, Wildberries remains a significant player in Russia's e-commerce sector, contributing approximately 3% to the country's GDP.
