Massive Russian barrage fires 28 missiles and 115 drones, zero missiles downed

Russian missile and drone attacks in Ukraine's capital region have resulted in at least 15 fatalities and 42 injuries, according to the country's state emergency service. The assault intensified overnight and carried into Wednesday, marking a recent escalation in a series of large-scale ballistic missile strikes that have become all too common this summer.

Ukraine's air defense capabilities, reliant on limited Patriot systems, are stretched thin by the sheer volume of enemy firepower, rendering it challenging to neutralize such broad volleys.

The destruction was particularly severe in the wider Kyiv region surrounding the capital. In Brovary, Bucha, and Fastiv districts, 14 individuals lost their lives, with 27 more sustaining injuries. Fires erupted in multiple locations, including warehouses in Brovary, villages of Velyka Dymerka, Kvitneve, and Peremoha, and an enterprise in Fastiv district. In Bucha district, crews faced a warehouse blaze in Chaiky village following another fire at a logistics facility in Sofiivska Borshchahivka.

In the capital, Kyiv, one person was killed and 15 were injured. Emergency services swiftly responded, extinguishing all fires sparked by the strikes in Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Desnianskyi districts. Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine's president on defense technology development, remarked on Facebook that the war of attrition has entered a new phase.

"The enemy is attacking everything indiscriminately—retail warehouses, food storage facilities, logistics hubs, enterprises, building materials warehouses," he stated.
