Orioles usher in post-Adley Rutschman era with 3-1 win over Angels

Baltimore Orioles began the final 50 games of the season with a crucial 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, marking the start of a new era following the trade of their franchise player, Adley Rutschman. Left-handed pitcher Cade Povich, who was brought up from the minors to fill the rotation spot vacated by Dean Kremer's trade on Saturday, delivered a strong performance against former Orioles star Grayson Rodriguez.

Povich pitched six innings of scoreless ball and struck out seven, his best tally this season. The team also marked the debut of catcher Carlos Narváez, acquired from the Red Sox in the same trade, and Christian Franklin, making his major league debut. Franklin made an immediate impact, drawing a walk in his first at-bat and scoring the game's first run when Pete Alonso hit a one-out single to center.

Narváez was hit by a pitch in the third inning, loading the bases, before the Orioles capitalized on Rodriguez's pitching struggles. The Orioles' offense found its rhythm in the late innings, with Narváez striking out nine times and Rodriguez walking three over six innings. Despite an early threat from the Angels, the Orioles sealed the win in the ninth inning with Jackson Holliday and Yennier Cano contributing to the victory.
