Bekas senator diarah bayar Salim Fateh Din RM275,000

The High Court of Malaysia has issued an injunction restraining former senator Daljit Singh from repeating a libellous statement against MRCB Executive Director Salim Fateh Din. The court ordered the former senator to pay Salim Din RM275,000 after the ruling was in his favor in two separate suits. Judge Roz Mawar Rozain ordered Daljit Singh to pay damages of RM100,000 and costs of RM75,000, finding him responsible for the libel.

The injunction was also issued on July 30 last year, halting Daljit Singh from repeating the libelous statement against Salim. Salim Din sued Daljit in June 2023, alleging that the latter defamed and published defamatory words "Salim cheated me" in Malay to lawyer Selva Kumar Mookiah in 2021. He stated that Daljit then sent a text message regarding Salim to Selva the very next day.

In April 2023, Salim alleged that Daljit defamed and published another libelous statement sent to a news portal journalist at the time. Salim, who is also chairman of the Communications and Multimedia Advisory Council, said Daljit's statement rendered him untrustworthy, deceitful, and a fraud, and implicated him in illegal and immoral activities.

He claimed that Daljit tarnished his reputation and good name. In his counterclaim returned by the Court of Appeal in 2024, Daljit alleged that the statement was taken out of context. However, Roz Mawar dismissed the counterclaim after finding that Daljit's defense was justified and that the special consideration was not proven.

In the separate suits heard before Roz Mawar, Daljit was ordered to cease taking a loan of RM100,000 from Salim. Dhinesh Bhaskaran represented Salim, while Daljit was represented by Harjinder Singh.
