Indonesia’s Prabowo is happy to play mediator to both Koreas. But does North want him to?

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is considering visiting North Korea, a move that could enhance Jakarta's diplomatic standing and serve as a bridge between Seoul and Pyongyang. However, some analysts question whether North Korea would welcome such an initiative. Prabowo stated during a meeting with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce that he would be willing to visit North Korea if asked to facilitate dialogue.

Despite Indonesia's efforts to maintain neutrality in regional conflicts, a visit could potentially bolster Indonesia's credibility among North Korea, which views the country as a non-aligned mediator. Nevertheless, North Korea's recent stance against denuclearization and its close ties with China and Russia might limit the influence of ASEAN in the region.

Prabowo's frequent overseas travels have drawn criticism at home, raising concerns about his willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts that may not align with domestic priorities.
