The Indiana Fever women's basketball team, despite enduring a relentless stream of off-court distractions, continues to flourish on the court. Notably, the Fever managed to outshine their rivals, including the defending league champion Las Vegas Aces, who eliminated the Indiana squad from the conference semifinals last season. In fact, the Fever's recent 5-2 road record was achieved after a 108-100 loss to Minnesota, which marked their fifth consecutive 100-point game – a streak that, if extended, would set a franchise record for consecutive 100-point games.

Sophie Cunningham, the Fever's guard, has been vocal about her views on trans women competing in women's sports. Although she declined to address the latest controversy directly, Cunningham did mention her conversation with league-winning coach Cheryl Reeve. She expressed frustration with the media's focus on everything but basketball, stating, "There's just so much distraction.

I think the WNBA media, all we ever do is cover everything except basketball. It's like, what are we doing? There's so much, like you can talk about other things. I think those are great stories. I think it shows fans, you know, who people are outside of the court. But I also think we've got to keep the main thing, the main thing."
