'I want to be a coach': Ben Stokes eyes England coaching role after retirement

Former England cricket captain Ben Stokes has expressed his desire to transition into a coaching role following his retirement from international cricket. Stokes, who already holds coaching qualifications, stated that he is actively preparing for life post-playing days. The 35-year-old, who earned his reputation as a key player in England's 2019 ODI World Cup victory and a match-winning innings in the 2019 Ashes Test at Headingley, plans to remain involved in cricket once his playing career concludes.

Stokes has been working towards his coaching course while still actively playing. His ambition to become a coach is clear, and he expressed his aspiration to potentially lead the England team once his playing days are over. Stokes emphasized his belief that his leadership experiences have equipped him for a coaching role and noted that he is open to making significant decisions.

Moreover, Stokes paid tribute to England's white-ball captain Harry Brook, acknowledging his exceptional talent. Although Brook was appointed vice-captain of the England Test team following Stokes' retirement, Stokes questioned the decision, expressing confusion over why Brook was not selected as the Test captain in his absence. Despite understanding the reasoning behind the choice, Stokes felt that the situation communicated an inadequate message to Brook, who was still vice-captain while Stokes was absent.
