Stokes would love to coach England in future

Former England Test captain Ben Stokes expressed his desire to take on the role of coaching the national team in the future, during an appearance on the For the Love of Cricket podcast. Stokes, 35, made his retirement from international cricket official in June, following England's 2-1 defeat to New Zealand in the series. The all-rounder had announced his retirement from international cricket in June, while still playing, as he sought to complete his level three coaching qualifications.

Stokes was surprised that Harry Brook did not succeed him as England's Test captain, and was concerned about Joe Root being appointed to the role. Stokes recently revealed that he has no intention of reversing his retirement for the 2027 Ashes, stating firmly that he has "definitely" retired from international cricket. Despite this, he has expressed his willingness to take on the role of coaching England in the future.

Root was appointed as the permanent Test captain following Brook's controversy, and has now been given the role permanently. Stokes praised Root's leadership and expressed his hope that he would do well in his new role, stating that he wishes him "nothing but success" and believes he will "really enjoy it" with new coach Stephen Fleming, a former New Zealand captain.
