I sleep well because I stand by the truth – Asiedu Nketiah defends tough leadership decisions

NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, defended his leadership approach, asserting that difficult decisions cannot be avoided due to potential short-term hardships. Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, he emphasized the importance of sticking to one's beliefs even when decisions face criticism or cause temporary discomfort. This statement came amid controversy surrounding the NDC's internal leadership reshuffle while in opposition, specifically the replacement of Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader with Dr Cassiel Ato Forson. The move sparked debate and raised questions about the timing and reasoning behind the decision.

Asiedu Nketiah defended the decision, refusing to apologize for stating the truth. He maintained that the truth remains constant regardless of whether people accept it or not. When asked about his comments causing hurt, he argued that no one should have been offended and believed that once people listen to his full remarks, they would understand that his remarks were not as significant as they appeared.

Nketiah also dismissed claims that the episode damaged his relationships with Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, stating that they maintained close ties and were working together. He even mentioned that he had spoken with Haruna Iddrisu the previous day and confirmed that Muntaka remained in regular contact.

Rejecting the notion that the leadership reshuffle was unprecedented, Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that every decision has its first instance. He stressed that he would not hesitate to take a decision if he believes it is the right way to achieve his goals. Reflecting on the emotional reactions that followed the reshuffle, he acknowledged that those affected were understandably hurt but stated that it was natural when necessary decisions are made.

Drawing an analogy with surgery, he added that if he knows a cut is necessary to heal someone, he does not have any qualms about it. He concluded on a lighter note, recalling how he jokingly warned Muntaka not to expect any arrest, to which Muntaka responded that he might have received notice of his dismissal before heading to Nsawam Prison.
