HYPREP seeks end to killings, backs Ogoni security efforts

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project's Chairman, Emmanuel Deeyah, has called for decisive action against those responsible for the increasing insecurity in Ogoniland, Rivers State. This call came during a visit to Dr Thomas Bari’ere, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area. The tragedy that prompted this call was the recent killing of former Chief Security Officer Mr Letam Kiine, who was reportedly ambushed by gunmen along the road leading to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic.

Deeyah expressed solidarity with the council chairman, councillors, and staff, offering his support and urging them not to back down in their efforts to strengthen security. He emphasized that the local government must identify and apprehend those behind criminal activities, warning them that the law would eventually catch up with them.

Bari’ere thanked Deeyah for his visit, describing it as a display of support from the people and leadership of the area. He vowed to bring an end to the insecurity in Khana, alleging that some individuals were attempting to seek security appointments while fueling violence. The council has activated its security architecture in response to recent killings and will support the deployment of resources to apprehend those responsible.
