Deep Read: Streitgespräch zwischen Grünen-Chefin und Ökonom: „Das hat mit einer liberalen Marktwirtschaft nichts zu tun“

Franziska Brantner, Chair of the Green Party, unveiled a bold plan to establish her party as a new liberal force, with some suggesting it may also fill the gap left by the FDP. For several weeks, she has been traveling the country, advocating for the evolution of liberalism. However, the Green Party has been associated with a negative image, particularly in economic and energy policies, over the past years. Who is to say if this is unjustified?

To clarify this, the Handelsblatt interviewed Brantner and economist Lars Feld, who have extensive knowledge of Baden-Württemberg. Brantner, a native of the region, served as the right-hand woman to Economy Minister Robert Habeck during the Ampel (Green-Liberal-SDP) government. Feld, on the other hand, was appointed as the chief economic adviser to Finance Minister Christian Lindner from the FDP. The economic divide between Habeck and Lindner has been well-documented since then.

During a discussion in Brantner's office at the Bundestag, both parties had numerous disagreements, yet also reached some agreements. However, they all shared a consensus on a significant error estimated to be in the millions.
