Chelsea set to sign Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano

The negotiations between the two clubs have reached their final stages, according to the source. Chavarria, a Spanish defender, has already agreed to personal terms with Chelsea. The West London club is also ready to arrange a medical examination for the 28-year-old once all final details are confirmed.

Chelsea made it clear from the outset that Chavarria was their preferred choice for replacing Marc Cucurella, who moved to Real Madrid earlier this summer for £51.7 million. With Jorrel Hato being their only established senior left-back, Chelsea sought to enhance their squad immediately with Chavarria's presence. While other players were considered during the talks, the Spanish defender remained the club's top priority.

One of the primary hurdles in the transfer was reaching an agreement on the transfer fee, as Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano held differing opinions. However, both parties have now come closer to a compromise, making the deal more likely to move forward.
