Changing this one simple setting solved all of my Android Auto disconnection issues

As a devoted user of Android Auto, there are several features I'd love to see in the upcoming 2026 update. While Google has already introduced some exciting updates, such as immersive 3D navigation, video playback support for YouTube, and home screen widget support, there are still areas where improvements are needed. Beyond the welcome changes, here are five features that would greatly enhance the driving experience for Android Auto users.

Firstly, the current iteration of Gemini, Google's AI assistant, leaves much to be desired. It is overly chirpy and takes longer to execute tasks compared to its older version, resulting in frustrating delays when requesting navigation instructions, weather updates, or playing playlists. Improving Gemini's processing speed and response time, as well as increasing its accuracy for common commands like "yes" and "no," would greatly benefit users.

Secondly, the inability to send voice messages to contacts through Android Auto is a significant drawback. Although both the car and phone have microphones, the system frequently transcribes messages into text instead of sending audio, leading to misunderstandings and inaccuracies. Offering users the option to choose between text and voice messaging for contacts, with the ability to set a preference via a settings toggle, would ensure accurate communication.

Thirdly, Gemini's difficulty in understanding and relaying messages accurately is a persistent issue. It often includes parts of the command in transcribed messages, misspells words, and fails to recognize proper names or locations. Integrating the Contacts app's features, such as Phonetic First Names and Last Names, along with Nicknames, into Android Auto would greatly improve message accuracy for users.

Fourthly, Google Maps' new immersive navigation feature is impressive, but its practicality is questionable. Users would benefit from the ability to customize various Maps interface elements to suit their preferences. Customization options would enhance the overall navigation experience and make Android Auto a more personalized tool for drivers.

Lastly, Android Auto is a battery-intensive system, often causing phones to enter power-saving mode unexpectedly. Providing users with an option to activate a low-battery mode when their phone's battery reaches critical levels would help conserve device power. This mode could restrict network usage to 3G or 4G, disable demanding visual effects, limit mapping features to show directions only, and limit access to a select number of compatible apps, ensuring a safer and more efficient driving experience.
