Celtic manager O'Neill undergoes minor operation

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill underwent a minor surgical procedure and remains hospitalized, the Scottish Premiership champions announced on Wednesday. O'Neill, 74, was admitted to the hospital following the surgery and is expected to be discharged within the next day or two. Celtic expressed gratitude towards the supporters for their well wishes during this time.

The Irish manager took up the permanent role in June on a one-year contract, succeeding on an interim basis twice during the previous season. Under O'Neill's guidance, Celtic achieved a Premiership and Scottish Cup double. Previously, O'Neill led the Glasgow team from 2000 to 2005, securing a domestic treble in his first season and leading Celtic to the UEFA Cup final in Seville in 2003.
