Celtic boss O'Neill in hospital after 'small procedure'

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill is currently hospitalized following a minor surgical procedure, as announced by the club. The 74-year-old is anticipated to be discharged within the next day or two. O'Neill signed a one-year contract in June to become the permanent manager, following two interim stints last season that ended with a Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double.

He was present during Celtic's opening match of the new campaign, a 1-0 victory over Dundee. Celtic confirmed via social media that O'Neill had undergone a small procedure in the hospital. The club expressed gratitude for supporters' well-wishes and requested privacy for O'Neill and his family. O'Neill returned to Celtic in October after a 20-year hiatus, ending his previous tenure in 2019.

He briefly handed over management responsibilities to Wilfried Nancy, but the French coach was sacked after just eight games, leading to O'Neill's return. O'Neill secured his eighth and ninth major trophies with the club before agreeing to a one-year deal with the possibility of an extension, as discussed with Celtic's major shareholder, Dermot Desmond.
